👋 Hi, I’m Dario.

I can get you excited about “invisible” software engineering topics and guide you through your own implementation to fully understand them.

Since 2010, I’ve been writing software professionally or managing teams of software developers.

Through all those years, solid practical fundamentals have carried me through all kinds of engagements: freelancing, investor-backed startups, transitioning from server-rendered everything, to modern SPAs, back to where we started.

Many things change, technologies come and go, but some things are here to stay:

  • understanding how git works by implementing your own version has paid long-term dividends: git’s content model is intuitive.

  • have you read the bash manual cover to cover? I have – and it’s knowledge with an infinite shelf-life.

  • sqlite3 is ubiquitous, and will stay like that – knowing what it can do for you can make it an obvious and simple starting point, carrying systems for a long time.

At the Cultivated Engineer, you’ll read about topics like these and more.

We’ll go deep and wide.

Tune out of the daily grind

This is not the place for Jira, Sprints, or lengthy deployment pipelines.

Here we’ll go deep into topics that have little to do with your day job – on purpose. After all, you already spend a lot of time on such topics at your hope.

Develop a deep understanding of tools and methods

The best way to develop an intuition is through experience.

The second best way is to follow along when others are gaining experience.

Maybe this newsletter will inspire you to start your own projects, maybe you’ll just take in information by osmosis.

In any case, we’ll shine a light on the dark corners of

Support a sustainable future

Change is on the horizon with a new class of tools available, and talk about making software engineers obsolete abounds.

I’ll believe that when I see it, but what I’ve been seeing already is that nobody has time to mentor and uplevel others anymore.

The Apprentice - Journeyman - Master track of learning on the job isn’t working anymore.

The Cultivated Engineer is here to close that gap.

I hope to hear from you!

Dario
